Panthers captain Sasha Barkov makes a life-changing, seven-figure donation to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

Florida Panthers Captain Sasha Barkov has been working very hard with rehabbing his surgically repaired knee in hopes of returning to the team at some point this season.

Barkov had surgery after suffering a torn ACL and MCL during a training camp practice back in September of last year.

He’s been back on the ice for a couple months now, gradually ramping up his rehab while building up the strength in and around his knee.

Following Tuesday’s on-ice workout, Barkov headed over to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, where he has been an active partner throughout his time with the Panthers.

For the past seven years Barkov has been donating $1,600 for every goal he scores and $800 per assist to the hospital as part of his Barkov Scores 4 JoeD initiative.

His contributions have helped Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital build an updated play area for the young patients to enjoy, as well as funding expansions of their medical facilities which allows for more patients to receive treatment, including those with critical or complex conditions.

On Tuesday, Barkov and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital announced what they described as a “significant seven-figure philanthropic gift” that Barkov was giving to the hospital.

Barkov's gift will benefit the hospital's pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine services.

As a result, the hospital’s sports medicine program will now be referred to as Barkov Sports Medicine at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

This gift is in addition to the Barkov Scores 4 JoeD initiative, which has raised over $550,000 since its inception in 2019.
