Florida has been dealing with an illness that is impacting several players while wrapping up its five-game road trip
The Florida Panthers made a couple of roster moves on Monday ahead of their road game against the Calgary Flames.
As Florida has moved toward the end of its five-game road trip, the team has been battling an illness that is impacting several players in the locker room.
During the Panthers victory in Edmonton on Saturday, forwards Anton Lundell and Jonah Gadjovich were held out due to both being under the weather.
Lundell missed Florida’s previous game in Calgary as well.
Forward Will Lockwood was called up from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers to fill in for the sick Panthers, and he played in Saturday’s win over the Oilers.
It appears that the Panthers expect Lundell to be out at least a couple more games as he has been placed on Injured Reserve, according to the CapFriendly and the NHL Media website.
That move could be retroactive, meaning Lundell may be eligible to return during Florida’s upcoming homestand that begins on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues.
In the meantime, the Panthers announced Monday that the team had recalled rookie Justin Sourdif from Charlotte.
The 21-year-old has been playing well for the Checkers of late, scoring 3 goals over his past three games while racking up 5 goals and 12 points in 17 AHL games this season.
He played in three games with the Panthers back in October, recording a pair of shots on goal while averaging just under nine minutes per game of ice time.
Sourdif won’t be in the lineup when the Panthers face the Flames on Monday, but Lockwood will be.
