Five of the six games between Florida and New York were decided by one goal

Panthers forward Sam Bennett speaks after Florida's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers in Game 6.

If best on best competition is what hockey fans truly crave, they were not disappointed in last season’s Eastern Conference Final.

The matchup between the Presidents’ Trophy winning New York Rangers and Atlantic Division champ Florida Panthers had the makings of what should’ve been an excellent, entertaining, extended series, and it did not disappoint.

Florida set the tone with a gritty 3-0 shutout victory in Game 1 at Madison Square Garden, Sergei Bobrovsky’s first clean sheet of the postseason.

It would be the only game of the series that wasn’t decided by a single goal as the following three would all require overtime to be decided.

Florida fell behind 2-1 in the series following back-to-back OT victories by New York, but it was a quick power play goal by Sam Reinhart early in overtime of Game 4 that shifted momentum back in the Panthers favor.

A comeback victory by Florida back at The Garden in Game 5 sent the Rangers to the brink, and the Panthers took care of business on home ice in Game 6 to earn their second straight trip to the Stanley Cup Final.
