Florida took out Boston for the second straight postseason, but this year it took one less game

Welcome back to the second installment in our Redemption Rewind series.

THN Florida is looking back at some of the key moments and games during the Panthers incredible Stanley Cup Final run, and this week we’re going through each of the four playoff series.

First we went back to Florida’s five game victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the opening round, and today we’re looking at the Panthers second round win against the big bad Boston Bruins.

Boston spent much of the regular season sitting atop the Atlantic Division, but a late slump combined with a surge by Florida saw the rivals swap spots and gave the Panthers the division crown.

Florida also would get home ice advantage in the second round series with Boston, not that it mattered,

Of the six games it took for the Panthers to knock out Boston, only one of the six were won by the home team.

Just as it was the previous year, the series between the Cats and Bruins was an extremely physical one.

There was a fight between superstars Matthew Tkachuk and David Pastrnak, complete with a helmet-popping punch to the face, that wasn’t even the highlight of the series.

That’s because of a controversial hit by Sam Bennett to the head of Brad Marchand, and the subsequent retribution search by many of Marchand’s teammates, that consumed the attention of much of the remaining games.

Even with Boston taking Game 1 in Sunrise, it never felt like the Panthers didn’t have the advantage in the series.

Florida would win three straight games against the Bruins, just as they did during round one against Tampa, and eliminate Boston in six games.
