Barkov logged three assists in the first two periods against the Rangers on Friday
A little history was made at Amerant Bank Arena on Friday night.
Florida Panthers captain Sasha Barkov logged three assists on the team’s first three goals against the New York Rangers.
Logging at least three assists in one game is nothing new for Barkov, as he’s now done it 15 times during his career, and two games in a row for Florida.
His third assist on Friday was significant because it tied the Panthers franchise record for assists.
Barkov has now joined former teammate Jonathan Huberdeau atop the list with 415 career helpers.
The milestone marker came off the stick of Sam Reinhart, who deflected a Barkov point shot past New York Rangers goaltender Jonathan Quick to give Florida a 3-2 lead late in the second period of Friday's game.
The 28-year-old Finnish center was selected second overall by Florida all the way back in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
He’s spent his entire career in South Florida, amassing 254 goals and, now, 415 assists, for 669 points in 696 games with the Panthers.
