Sergei Bobrovsky stays hot, named NHL's Second Star of the Week

Bob picked up a pair of wins last week, including 35-save shutout of the Colorado Avalanche

Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky speaks to the media after Florida's 4-0 win over Colorado on Feb. 10 at Amerant Bank Arena.

Sergei Bobrovsky has emerged from the NHL All-Star Break seemingly recharged, rejuvenated and ready to push for another Stanley Cup Final run.

Bobrovsky had an excellent time in Toronto, showing off his skills on a grand stage while enjoying himself around the league's superstars, but once he returned to South Florida it was time to lock himself back into work-mode.

He seems to have done that, and then some.

Bob hit the ground running last week, earning a pair of impressive victories on Thursday against Washington and then Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.

His goaltending heroics earned Bobrovsky the NHL's Second Star of the Week honors.

"It's awesome to see a goalie play with that much confidence," Panthers center Sam Bennet said Monday. "We're lucky to have him."

Last week, Bobrovsky earned a perfect 2-0-0 record while stopping 56 of the 58 shots he faced during the two games.

That includes a 35 save shutout against the high-flying Avalanche.

"I try to remind myself that it's the NHL, it's the greatest hockey game that you can see, and I play for a great team," Bobrovsky said after Saturday's win. "So you appreciate all those things and appreciate the fans and how many people are watching you, and enjoy everything and savor the moment."

Looking a little deeper into Bob's pair of wins, he was called upon to made several highlight reel saves.

Between the two starts, Bobrovsky stopped all but one of the 16 high danger shots that were sent his way, according to Natural Stat Trick.

He currently holds a 25-10-2 record to go along with a 2.43 goals against average and solid .913 save percentage.

The 25 wins are third-most in the NHL among goaltenders this season.

Since dropping three of four in mid-December, Bob has gone 11-1-1 over his past 14 starts and the Panthers have created a nice little cushion between themselves and the teams below in the Atlantic Division standings.

"It gives us so much confidence when we know he's back there and he's feeling it and he's making huge saves," said Bennett. "It just gives us that extra boost, and we're able to rally around his good play."
