It’s hard to argue that the past three years haven’t been the best in Florida Panthers history.
The only thing that comes close is the magical season of 1996, but that’s a debate for another time.
Over the past three years, Florida has reached heights never before seen by the franchise.
Led by general manager Bill Zito and head coach Paul Maurice, the Panthers have become the toast of the NHL, playing a fast, aggressive and physical style of hockey that the league has yet to come up with an answer for.
One of the main reasons the Cats have found so much success playing their way is because they’ve put together a roster full of skilled players willing to put in the work required to succeed at the highest levels.
Perhaps the player who most personifies Florida’s hockey playing personality is Matthew Tkachuk.
It was on this day this years ago, July 22, 2022, that Florida acquired Takchuk from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a first-round pick.
The man who was called a “unicorn” by Panthers GM Bill Zito during Tkachuk’s introductory press conference has proved to be exactly that, proving to be as impactful as an emotional and physical leader as he is with his offensive production and timely scoring.
During his three seasons in South Florida, Tkachuk has put up 88 goals and 254 points while racking up 265 penalty minutes over 211 regular season games while adding another 25 goals and 69 points, and 138 penalty minutes, in 67 playoff contests.
He has shown no hesitation to put his body on the line for his teammates and do whatever it takes in order for Florida to find postseason success.
If not for him suffering a fractured sternum during the 2023 Stanley Cup Final against Vegas, an injury he actually played through until his body gave out on him, Florida may have already completed their three-peat.
He’s also fallen in love with living in Fort Lauderdale and isn’t shy about letting everyone know.
With Tkachuk and all of Florida’s core locked down to long-term deals, many of which are extremely team friendly, it would seem the success that the team has found since Chucky’s arrival is far from coming to an end.
Below you'll find a few fun Tkachuk-themed videos showing some of his top moments in a Panthers sweater.
Happy Tkachuk Day to all who observe!
