Tkachuk made an appearance on the Yandling Bizness podcast this week

Florida Panthers captain Sasha Barkov may be known as a quiet guy on and off the ice, but that apparently changes when he gets behind the wheel.

During a recent appearance on the Yandling Bizness show, Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk discussed some interesting information about his teammate’s driving tendencies.

The conversation was happening at Xtreme Action Park in Fort Lauderdale, and co-host of the show Keith Yandle, who played several seasons with Barkov and the Panthers, was the first to bring up Sasha’s driving.

“We were gonna invite Barky to this, but he’s too fast of a driver,” Yandle said.

When Tkachuk appeared to nod in agreement, Yandle asked him if Barkov was “still driving like a lunatic.”

    “Oh yeah,” Tkachuk replied.

Yandle’s co-host Paul Bissonnette commented that Europeans often drive with a “heavy foot.”

“Somebody was telling me he made it from Boca to the (Fort Lauderdale) airport in like seven minutes,” Tkachuk said, as Yandle put his hand up and nodded.

"I was on the team (when that happened)," Yandle said.

Bissonnette asked how long that drive should normally be, which Yandle correctly stated around 35 minutes.

"I think it was like 11 minutes, because he was late for the plane, and he's never late," Yandle said.

Later in the chat, Bissonnette asked Tkachuk who leads the Panthers in speeding tickets.

“It’s probably gotta be Barky," Tkachuk replied. "Which sucks because over in Finland, don’t you get dinged (based) on how much you make?”

“He got a huge one,” Yandle added. “He got like a (Teemu) Selanne one, like a $50,000 ticket.”

That does appear to be a true story.

According to Finnish tabloid Iltalehti, Barkov was ticketed for going 105 kilometers per hour in a 60 km/h zone and had to pay a fine of €46,675 euros back in the summer of 2018, which at the time would've equalled to just over $53,000 U.S. dollars.

(Also FYI, Selanne reportedly was given a $55,000 speeding ticket for going 19 miles per hour over the speed limit in the early 2000s, and a $39,000 ticket a couple years before that, also for speeding.)

As for Tkachuk, don’t expect to hear about him paying off any big speeding tickets any time soon.

“You can’t get caught speeding in a golf cart,” he said with a smirk. “I guess that’s lucky for me.”
