Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports - The Panthers unveiled a new, custom goal song. Here's what we know about it.

The Florida Panthers have debuted a brand new goal song.

Fans in attendance at the Panthers home opener on Thursday night at Amerant Bank Arena were the first ones to hear it.

On Friday, THN Florida was granted a private listening session of the goal song.

It starts by grabbing your attention with a strong introduction of drums.

Soon after, the sound of fans chanting ‘ooh’ in the background fades into the beat.

The next think you hear is the song’s lyrics of “Go Cats Go,” and then the beat drops into some high energy electric tuneage.

Overall, it’s a fun, spirited and modern jam, and perhaps more importantly, it’s unique to only the Panthers.

The hard-working team at THN Florida has dug around to discover what we could about the new song and its origins.

When the Panthers made the decision that they wanted to incorporate a new goal song, the intent was to create something that would not only be original, but also encourage fan participation.

After what was described to THN as an extensive search, the team reached out to electronic dance music producer and DJ Öwnboss, who headlined Florida’s Catz B Side concert back in March, and asked if he could come up with a custom goal song for the team.

He decided to use part of his track "Move Your Body" in the song he created for the Panthers.

The Panthers believe the artist choice and song itself are reflective of South Florida’s vibrant culture.

Last season, Florida went with individual goal songs that each player on the team selected for themselves.

Defenseman Aaron Ekblad used Öwnboss' "Move Your Body" as his.

Prior to that, “Sweetness” by Jimmy Eat World had been Florida's goal song for several years.

The reaction from Panthers fans on social media to the new song was mixed, but that’s to be expected with any change of this magnitude.

In all likelihood, the more they hear it, the more they’ll like it.

    Because, you know, goals.

When asked for his take on the song, Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice admitted he didn't notice it (he was a little busy, after all) but when told about its unique nature, he immediately went back to his days coaching the Hartford Whalers.

While it wasn’t their creation, the Whalers had an incredibly unique goal song called "Brass Bonanza" that remains synonymous with hockey in Hartford.

Maurice indicated he wasn’t a huge fan of it, but acknowledged how something like a personalized goal song can start to grow on you.

“You know what? After a while,” he said with a smile. “It takes you a little while. We didn’t hear it enough when I was there.”

The Panthers now join the likes of the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings as teams with their own goal songs.

Looking at some of the goal scorers on Florida’s roster, it’s seems likely that we’ll be hearing the new song quite a bit this season.
