
A Minnesota Wild recap of Day One at the IIHF Men's World Championships.

Joel Eriksson Ek had a great game for Sweden in their 5-2 win over USA to start the 2024 Men's IIHF World Championships. The Wild have five players on Sweden and one on Czechia, Austria, Norway, and USA. John Hynes is also USA's head coach.

Eriksson Ek recorded two goals, one assist, and eight shots in a 5-2 win over the USA. Marcus Johansson recorded one goal, one assist, two shots and was a +2. He assisted on Eriksson Ek's first goal.
Jonas Brodin recorded five shots in 22:07 of TOI. Filip Gustavsson started for Sweden and stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in the win over USA.
"It's always nice to represent your country," Gustavsson told the media. "It's a dream, and you're always nervous for the first game. You never know what to expect, but it was great fun out there."
Boldy tallied an assist and three shots in 21:50 of TOI in the loss and got a little physical with Eriksson Ek all game.
Mats Zuccarello collected an assist in 21:56 of TOI in a 5-2 loss to Switzerland and David Spacek registered three shots in 14:06 of TOI in a 1-0 shootout win over Finland.
