ST. PAUL - Marcus Johansson picked up two goals and an assist against the Red Wings making him tonight's player of the game.
Johansson picked up his second goal of the year three games ago after going 24 straight games without a goal. After his goal against Boston, Johansson now has three goals and five points in his last four games.
Under John Hynes, Johansson has three goals and ten points in 14 games, and the Wild have gone 11-3-0. Johansson had one goal and eight points in the first 19 games under Dean Evason.
The 33-year-old forward also had three shots on goal against the Red Wings and was a plus-three in the Wild's 6-3 win over Detroit.
"Yeah, it's nice to see Marcus Johansson be able to get rewarded for the way that I think he's played as of late," Hynes said. "Great skating game, he's making plays and I thought the three of those guys really stepped up for us tonight."
Johansson picked up the Wild's second goal of the game in the second period after Ryan Hartman was denied by James Reimer on a breakaway. Marco Rossi missed the rebound after being tied up and Johansson swooped in to rip home his third goal of the year.
“We played a couple games before Hartzy left. I think we work hard for each other, and on Hartzy’s goal Marco drives the net and just opens that ice up for Hartzy," Johansson said. "It’s little stuff like that that makes it work, stuff that might not get a lot of attention but it pays off for the line.”
Rossi eventually assisted on Johansson's second goal of the game in the third period after he forced a turnover on the Red Wings defender and Johansson came in and picked the loose puck before making it 5-2 Wild.
The Wild eventually walked away with a 6-3 win over the Red Wings with Johansson having three points.
