From a blockbuster trade for Quinn Hughes to ending an eleven-year playoff drought, Guerin’s bold roster moves and cap management have transformed Minnesota into a legitimate powerhouse.

Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin added another accomplishment to an already memorable season Friday.

The NHL announced that Guerin is taking home the 2025-26 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award after leading the Wild through one of the biggest years in franchise history.

Guerin’s biggest move came in December when he swung a blockbuster trade for star defenseman Quinn Hughes, giving Minnesota the elite No. 1 defenseman it had been searching for.

Hughes transformed the Wild’s blue line, quickly becoming one of the league’s most impactful players after arriving in St. Paul.

The Wild also took a significant step forward in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After years of first-round frustration, Minnesota finally broke through by defeating the Dallas Stars in the opening round, earning the franchise’s first playoff series victory in 11 years before eventually falling to the Colorado Avalanche in the second round.

While the Hughes trade will forever define Guerin’s season, his work went beyond one blockbuster. He navigated the roster through another year of salary-cap challenges, built a team capable of making a legitimate postseason run, and put the organization in position to contend moving forward.

Since arriving in Minnesota in 2019, he has preached patience while reshaping the roster and building a stronger culture. This season finally delivered the results Wild fans had been waiting for.

Now, with Hughes eligible for a contract extension this summer and franchise cornerstones Kirill Kaprizov, Matt Boldy, Brock Faber and Jesper Wallstedt entering their prime, Guerin’s focus quickly shifts from celebrating an individual honor to keeping Minnesota’s championship window open for years to come.
