Brock Faber participated in his first Minnesota Wild team practice since suffering a skull fracture. Coach John Hynes confirmed Faber will not play on Friday but is expected to join the team during their three-game road trip.
Brock Faber's return to the Minnesota Wild lineup is inching closer, as the defenseman joined his teammates for his first team practice today after suffering a skull fracture.
The process has been long and tedious for Faber. After the surgery, Faber was unable to do any physical activity. He recently cleared the NHL's return-to-play protocol and has been working to get into game shape.
He was in the gym working out and had been skating privately up until today when he joined his teammates for practice.
Faber suffered his skull fracture in a pre-season game when a point shot hit him in the head. The puck found its way through the ear hole. Faber was seen wearing ear covers at practice, which will ensure the puck cannot directly hit Faber in the same spot. Faber's injury sparked discussions among some Wild players about using ear guards.
Jared Spurgeon, the Wild's captain, was one of those players who started to consider using them and has. Quinn Hughes, at the moment, still does not use the ear guards despite commenting on possibly incorporating them.
The Wild are back in action Friday against the San Jose Sharks, but Faber's return date remains undetermined. Coach John Hynes said Faber will not feature in any of this weekend's home games but will accompany the team on their three-game road trip next week.
