Mitchell Chaffee spent four years with the University of Massachusetts where he tailed 47 goals and 95 points in 109 games. He was a top College Free Agent that the Minnesota Wild were able to sign.
After turning pro, Chaffee went to the AHL for the Iowa Wild where he played in 28 games his first season. Chaffee notched two goals and 17 points.
The next year Chaffee played almost a full season. He recorded 23 goals and 39 points in 49 AHL games with the Iowa Wild and got called up at the end of the season to play in two NHL games.
But an injury-riddled season the next year only saw Chaffee play in ten games for the Iowa Wild. He put up five goals and seven points in that span and elected free agency the next year.
Chaffee, 26, signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning where he started the year in the AHL.
The 6-foot forward recorded 12 goals and 26 points in 36 games for the Syracuse Crunch and was later recalled by the Lightning halfway through the season. He recorded four goals and seven points in 30 games for the Lightning and has played in all three playoff games.
In those three games, Chaffee has yet to record a point but is tied for sixth in the NHL in hits with 13. He is third on his team in hits behind Anthony Cirelli and Matt Dumba.
The former Wild forward has played every game for the Lightning on their third line. He plays with Nick Paul and Mikey Eyssimont, a former St. Cloud State Huskies forward.
Despite never really panning out in the Wild's organization, it looks like the former Wild forward has found a home in Tampa and has fit in well with his new team in the role they have him in.
