The former Wild forward was not given a qualifying offer by the Dallas Stars.

Former Wild forward Sam Steel was not given a qualifying offer by the Dallas Stars and will become a free agent for the third time in the last three years.

Steel, 26, originally signed with the Minnesota Wild after the Anaheim Ducks did not qualify the young center.

In 65 games for the Wild, Steel recorded ten goals and 28 points and was the team's first-line center at times in the season. Minnesota did not qualify him and he went to free agency.

The former first-round pick signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Stars before the 2023-24 season and recorded nine goals and 24 points in 77 games. Steel played in 19 playoff games as well where he notched one goal and five points.

He will now enter free agency for the third time in three seasons.
