Former Wild forward Kevin Fiala won the IIHF World Championship tournament MVP.
Kevin Fiala missed the start of the tournament for Switzerland because of the birth of his daughter. But he later joined the team in Prague and carried Team Switzerland to the Gold Medal game against Czechia.
Switzerland lost in the Gold Medal game 2-0 but Fiala's contributions to the team in the previous seven games he played in were good enough to earn the Most Valuable Player award for the whole tournament.
The Swiss forward had seven goals and 13 points in eight games. He was one point behind USA's Matt Boldy for the tournament lead. His seven goals and 13 points carried Switzerland to their third-ever Gold Medal game.
Fiala, 27, spent four years in Minnesota after the Wild traded Mikael Granlund for Fiala. He was later dealt to the Los Angeles Kings for Brock Faber and a first-round pick, which turned into Liam Ohgren.
In his four seasons, Fiala recorded 79 goals and 186 points in 215 games. He recorded 85 points in his final season with the Wild and broke a franchise record for most points in a single season. But Kirill Kaprizov recorded 108 that year as well which is the current Wild single-season point record.
But Fiala did set a record that still stands today. His five assists in a single game are the most in Wild history. Now in two seasons with the Kings, Fiala has 52 goals, 93 assists, and 145 points in 151 games.
