The Wild will be without both Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon tonight against the Calgary Flames.

The Wild recently announced that defenseman Jonas Brodin has been moved to LTIR with an upper-body injury that he sustained after taking a hit by Evander Kane in Edmonton a week ago.

Now the Wild will be without both Brodin and Jared Spurgeon for tonight's game against the Calgary Flames as Wild head coach John Hynes called it "he's day to day with an upper-body injury."

When the Wild came back from their 3-0 win over Seattle on Sunday they had the next two days off of practice before hitting the ice yesterday. Spurgeon did not practice due to what the Wild called a maintenance day. This is weird considering they just had two days off.

The Wild also recalled two defensemen from the Iowa Wild yesterday which basically confirmed Spurgeon has a nagging injury. It is unclear when the injury happened or how but I have to wonder if it relates to the hit Ryan Donato placed on Spurgeon on December 3rd.

Spurgeon did leave that game after he was helped off the ice but he did end up returning in that game, went on the four-game road trip with the Wild, played in all four games, and played over 27 minutes against the Kraken.

But tonight, the Wild will be without their captain.

Spurgeon missed the start of the year with an injury and during that stretch, the Wild went 5-6-2 but they allowed the second-most goals in the NHL at 52 which was exactly four goals against a game.

Since Spurgeon returned on November 10th, the Wild have allowed the fourth fewest goals per game in the league at 34 which is 2.62 a game.

Hopefully, the Wild won't revert back to how they played at the start of the season without Spurgeon or it will be tough to gain ground in the standings. To make things worse, the Wild will be without Brodin for the next month or so which doesn't make this any easier.
