Marcus Foligno hasn't played a game since January 25th but has been credited with 27 more hits following a league-wide audit done during the 2024 NHL All-Star break.

Today the NHL announced they performed a league-wide audit which happened during the 2024 NHL All-Star break to basically increase hit totals.

Marcus Foligno was one of many who benefited from this. After the audit was conducted, Foligno was given 27 more hits than he had, without playing in a single extra game.

Brandon Duhaime, Foligno's teammate, went from 94 hits to 116 without playing an extra game as well. Joel Eriksson Ek went from 92 hits to 114, for a difference of 22 total hits.

Foligno went from 129 to 156. He was tenth in the NHL with 129 hits but is now 11th in the league despite having 27 hits to his total on the season. Michael Russo of the Athletic wrote a story on the NHL's massive hits audit which does a great job of explaining why this all happened.

Nonetheless, it is weird to see some of the Wild's players take huge jumps in their hit totals without playing an extra game or anything. Foligno is among many NHLers to take a big jump in total hits on the season.
