Just a few days after Wild captain Jared Spurgeon had his back surgery, Pat Maroon now had his. But Maroon's surgery isn't expected to keep him out for the whole rest of the year like Spurgeon's will.
Maroon, 35, has played all 49 games for the Wild this season and has fit in nicely. He has four goals and 16 points with 60 penalty minutes. Maroon has won three Stanley Cups in his career and has done a great job sharing his leadership with the Wild.
As Michael Russo of the Athletic reported, Maroon is expected to be on the ice skating again in about two weeks. This will complicate the potential for the Wild to trade Maroon at the deadline if they are out of the playoffs but it shouldn't put an end to those discussions.
The Wild lost Maroon to an upper-body injury after the first period in their last game against the Anaheim Ducks on January 27th.
