Continuing the Minnesota Wild Draft Target series, today we look at Oshawa Generals forward Beckett Sennecke.
After his impressive playoffs with the Generals, Sennecke is beginning to receive some top-ten mentions for the upcoming draft.
Teammates with the Wild's 53rd overall pick in last year's draft Rasmus Kumpulainen, Sennecke finished the regular season with 27 goals and 68 points in 63 games.
His game reached another level in the playoffs. Sennecke helped push Oshawa to the OHL Final. He scored 10 goals and 22 points and looked like a player that could be a future top six, play-driving winger in the NHL.
Ryan Kennedy with The Hockey News has Sennecke at 12 on his top 120 rankings for the 2024 NHL Draft. As Kennedy reported, some scouts are beginning to believe that Sennecke could become a center in the NHL.
"He was 5-foot-10 last year and almost 6-foot-3 now," one scout said. "I don't think he's done growing. Once he fills out, he's going to be a beast. He's a beast now. I would love to see him in the middle. He can pass the puck from each side of the blade. He's so creative, so smart, and has suck soft hands. He may be a better center."
Sennecke's top attribute is his playmaking ability and when you put that and his growing size, becoming a center may make him even more dangerous. This is why he continues to shoot up in draft rankings.
His hands are top notch as well and with Sennecke being a right-shot forward and possibly a center, you would have to think this would excite the Wild.
Sennecke mentioned at the Draft Combine that he interviewed with 27 teams and had dinner with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Utah. Columbus owns the fourth overall pick while Utah has pick No. 6.
If he were to be available at pick No. 13 when the Wild are selecting, Minnesota should certainly think about it. He seems like a player who could turn into a Kirby Dach or Roope Hintz or maybe even Ryan O'Reilly, who was once on the Wild.
