It was a busy day for the Wild on day two of the Upper Deck NHL Draft. Minnesota made five picks as well as a trade.
With the 45th overall pick in the second round, the Wild drafted Ryder Ritchie. The offensive winger has a knack for scoring and projects to be a middle-six scoring forward at the NHL level.
“Ryder is a skilled offensive threat with good speed and a terrific release,” Wild Director of Amateur Scouting Judd Brackett said about Ritchie.
They were originally in position to pick in the fourth round of the draft at pick No. 110. They traded that pick along with forward Vinni Lettieri to Boston for Jakub Lauko and pick No. 122.
Minnesota took defenseman Aron Kiviharju with the pick. Lauko, a 24-year-old forward had 176 hits in 60 games last year.
"Offensive puck mover with excellent deception and quickness along the blueline," Brackett said on Kiviharju.
The Wild had two picks in the fifth round. They used their first pick on Sebastian Soini a Finnish-born defenseman. The Wild got the 140th overall pick in the Jordan Greenway trade.
"Two-way defender with an excellent combination of size and skating," Brackett said on Soini.
The Wild used their last pick in the fifth round to draft goaltender Chase Wutzke from the WHL.
"Chase is an athletic and quick goalie with good length and compete," Brackett said on Wutzke.
The Wild used their last pick in the Draft to take yet another defenseman. They took four defensemen in the draft on their six total picks.
"Leskovar provides a big, heavy, physical presence on the back end."
