According to a report by Columbus Blue Jackets Writer Aaron Portzline, the former Wild head coach is believed to be a candidate for the Blue Jackets vacant head coach spot.
Evason was the Wild's head coach from February of 2020 to November of 2023. He went 147-77-27 in his 251 games coached. In his first full season as a head coach the Wild went 35-16-5. They followed that up with a 53-22-7 record which broke a franchise record for most wins and points.
The following season was another 100 point season as the Wild went 46-25-11. He took over halfway through his first season and led the team to the playoffs. Evason was fired after a 5-10-4 start last year.
He has a career .586 winning percentage as a head coach. Evason did all of that in the middle of the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buyouts.
The Wild are still paying Evason since he is under contract but he can take a new job as a head coach if presented. He is believed to be a finalist for the Blue Jackets job along with Todd McLellan and Jay Woodcroft.
