After clearing waivers today, Vinni Lettieri has now been sent down to the AHL with the Iowa Wild along with defenseman Dakota Mermis. The Wild also announced they have activated defenseman Alex Goligoski from LTIR.

Lettieri, 28, has scored two goals this season in 11 games played for the Wild. The Minnesota native has also played on the Wild's second power play unit and some penalty kill time.

He will return to Iowa where he started the season. In four games for Iowa this season, Lettieri has recorded one goal and three points.

Mermis, 29, has been with the Wild since the start of the season after Minnesota recalled him from Iowa on Oct. 12 ahead of their season opener due to some injuries.

The veteran left-shot defenseman has been a pleasant surprise this season. Mermis has two goals and five points with a -1 rating in 13 games for the Wild where he's averaged 15:42 of ice time.

But with Goligoski and his $2,000,000 cap hit returning to the team, the Wild had to send both Mermis and Lettieri down and will return to how they started the season, in a very tight cap situation.

The Wild currently have around $800,000 in cap space right now so with a fully healthy team, they will chose to play with only one extra skater and accrue cap over time which will help them come trade deadline time.
