Minnesota secures grit and leadership for the playoff hunt, retaining the 19-season veteran to anchor the bottom six with defensive reliability and a relentless physical presence.
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild has brought back veteran forward Nick Foligno, keeping one of their leaders in the locker room and one of the team's most physical players in the lineup.
Foligno, 38, appeared in 17 regular-season games with the Wild after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks before the trade deadline.
He recorded one goal and three assists for four points while adding 41 hits, bringing a physical presence and veteran leadership to Minnesota's bottom six.
A veteran of 19 NHL seasons, Foligno has played 1,287 career games, totaling 251 goals, 361 assists and 612 points. He has also been one of the league's most physical forwards throughout his career, recording 2,885 hits.
While his offensive production has slowed in the later stages of his career, Foligno still provides value through his physical play, penalty killing, faceoff ability and leadership.
Re-signing the longtime NHL veteran gives the Wild another experienced voice in the room as they continue to chase a Stanley Cup.
It will be a one-year deal worth $900,000 for Foligno.
