Minnesota Wild defensive prospect Viking Gustafsson Nyberg reached a career milestone Friday night, scoring his first professional goal in the Iowa Wild's 2-1 loss to the Rockford IceHogs.
The 23-year-old defenseman found the back of the net just 59 seconds into the third period, tying the game at one.
After Wild forward Mason Shaw sent a shot toward the net, Gustafsson Nyberg collected the rebound in the left circle and fired it past Rockford goaltender Stanislav Berezhnoy.
Carson Lambos also recorded an assist on the goal.
The 6-foot-6 Swedish defenseman signed a two-year entry-level contract with Minnesota in April after completing his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut.
Gustafsson Nyberg also appeared in two NHL games with Minnesota toward the end of the 2025-26 regular season.
Although Iowa ultimately fell 2-1, the goal marked another milestone in Gustafsson Nyberg's development as he continues his first full professional season within the Wild organization.
