Matt Boldy is still searching for his first point of the season, but a matchup against the Florida Panthers could provide the spark he needs.

Four games into the 2026-27 season, Minnesota Wild forward Matt Boldy is still searching for his first point.

For a player who has established himself as one of Minnesota's most important offensive weapons, it's not the start he envisioned. But as the Wild prepare to face the Florida Panthers on Saturday night, Boldy isn't dwelling on the missed opportunities.

"Yeah, you want to score. It is what it is," Boldy said about not having a goal or point to start the season. "Can't go back in time and change these games. Just have to get ready for the next one and try to make a difference."

Saturday's matchup could be an opportunity for Boldy to finally break through.

In nine career games against the Panthers, the 25-year-old forward has recorded three goals and seven assists for 10 points. That's an average of 1.11 points per game, making Florida one of the opponents he's enjoyed success against throughout his career.

Boldy has also scored twice on 19 career shots against Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom, who enters Saturday with a 2-0-1 record, a 1.27 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage this season.

Despite Boldy's slow start on the scoresheet, Wild head coach John Hynes hasn't expressed concern about the forward's ability to produce.

"We're not saying they're missing in action," Hynes said on Thursday when discussing Boldy and Joel Eriksson Ek. "We're saying they're doing the things to be able to produce. It's not going in for them."

Hynes emphasized that the key for both players is continuing to trust their game rather than allowing the lack of production to change their approach.

"These guys are too good of players, and they play the game the right way," Hynes said. "With those two guys in particular, with the way they play and the opportunities they've had as of late, you've got to stay with it."

Minnesota enters Saturday's contest with a 2-1-1 record, while Florida remains unbeaten in regulation at 2-0-2.

The Wild have received early offensive contributions from Kirill Kaprizov, Quinn Hughes and Jared Spurgeon, but getting Boldy involved offensively would provide another significant boost to Minnesota's attack.

For Boldy, the focus isn't on making up for the first four games. It's about making an impact in the fifth. And given his history against Florida, Saturday could be the night he gets going.
