Minnesota’s injury crisis deepens as the captain joins a growing list of sidelined stars, forcing a defensive reshuffle ahead of a high-stakes clash with the Jets.

The hits just keep coming for the Minnesota Wild (4-1-1) as they enter Tuesday's game against the Winnipeg Jets without its captain.

Jared Spurgeon took a hit in the third period on the same shift that Jonas Brodin took a puck off the hand.

Brodin went to the bench, shaking his hand and after he was looked at by Assistant Athletic Trainer and Massage Therapist Travis Green. Brodin was fine. Once Green looked at Brodin, he moved one spot to the right to check on Spurgeon's shoulder.

Spurgeon, 36, finished the game and went out the next shift. Clearly woke up and had an issue with it.

Minnesota is now without, Spurgeon, Marcus Foligno, Nick Foligno, Brock Faber, Nico Sturm and Filip Gustavsson and we are just seven games into the season.

With two extra defensemen on the roster, the Wild elected to keep both Matt Kiersted and David Spacek despite losing a forward in Monday night's game.

I guess the Spurgeon injury makes sense why they did that.

Brodin will slot up to play with Quinn Hughes. Zach Bogosian will also go up to play with Olli Maatta. Daemon Hunt and Spacek will be the third pair.
