Just two days after Marc-Andre Fleury shut out the New York Islanders on Monday to earn career win number 552 which passed Patrick Roy for second all-time in wins, the veteran goaltender joined the Pat McAfee show.
On the show, Fleury and McAfee discussed win number 552 and if Fleury has changed his style of play when he first entered the league. Fleury joked that he has changed the way he has covered the post about four different times.
When asked if he is nearing the end of his career and might retire Fleury said he doesn't know what he would do if he were to retire and how he would fulfill the void if he were to retire. But Fleury stuck with what he said before the season which was to see how the year plays out before he decides to retire or not.
Fleury was also asked about all the pranks he's pulled in his career and where it all started from. Fleury said he had learned most of his pranks from some of the older guys who used to prank him when he was younger.
Being at the end of his contract year, Fleury's name has been in trade-type discussions over social media but the 39-year-old goaltender still believes in the Wild and their ability to make the playoffs but also doesn't ignore the fact that a trade could happen if the Wild feel the need to move Fleury.
"Your contract ending at the end of the season I feel like your name is always mentioned for trades," Fleury told McAfee. "But I still believe in my team and believe in the Wild. I want to be here, and try to go for a run and make our way back into the playoffs."
McAfee ended the interview but telling Fleury that he would donate $250,000 to Fleury's charity of choice if he were to score a goalie goal. Fleury joked that McAfee must be getting paid a bit more since McAfee offered Fleury the same deal a long time ago but was a lot less.
"I like it," Fleury said. "The last time I talked to you, I don't know maybe a few years back, it was only 100. So on ESPN, you do well huh."
Fleury joined the show at 11:40 central time. The full interview can be viewed on YouTube.
