One of the Wild's top prospects Danila Yurov, is now a Gagarin Cup Champion after Metallurg won in the finals. The Gagarin Cup is the KHL's version of the Stanley Cup.
Yurov, 20, led Metallurg in goals with 21 and points with 49 during the regular season in 62 games. He was second on the team in goals during the playoffs with six.
His 27 goals and 58 points over 84 regular season and playoff games are the most productive the KHL has ever seen in a player's D+2 year. D+2 means his second season after the NHL Draft.
With this, it seems like Yurov would want to turn pro after winning the KHL Cup and sign with the Wild but that doesn't seem to be the case.
As Michael Russo reported in his latest mailbag article, Yurov has been given every chance to sign a deal that would bring him over but the young stud is likely to sign a one-year deal in the KHL.
This would allow Yurov to play another season in the KHL and then come over to Minnesota for the 2025-26 season. There is thought that Yurov is ready to play in the NHL but one more year in the KHL would not hurt him at all. This could help him better translate his game to the NHL rather than playing some time in the AHL.
