With the Montreal Canadiens earning wins over the Avalanche and Devils, they brought a great deal of confidence into the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday night. But this game had to be considered a setback for Martin St. Louis' troops. The Habs were not in this game right from the drop of the puck.
Ottawa controlled the first period, outshooting the Habs 17-6 and taking a 2-1 lead to the intermission. Cole Caufield scored for the fourth consecutive game.
It was a difficult night for Cayden Primeau. The Canadiens 24-year-old goaltender made 32 saves while giving up five goals, several of the soft variety.
Montreal's top line were outmatched throughout the game, with a combined minus-7 rating. Nick Suzuki was below 50 per cent at the faceoff dot.

Sean Monahan - Monahan made a brilliant play to set up Cole Caufield's goal.
Jordan Harris - In a game that wasn't complimentary to Habs defensemen (David Savard was on the ice for four Senators goals), Harris played a smart, efficient game ending the game with an even rating.
