As tragedy hit the city of Montreal, Canadiens top goal scorer Cole Caufield stepped up to help.
According to Montreal Canadiens sniper Cole Caufield’s Instagram account, the newest member of the 50-goal season club is currently enjoying a much-needed break in Paris, France. However, yesterday, he didn’t just share holiday pictures on his account, far from it.
Even from afar, the 25-year-old keeps an eye on what’s happening at his home away from home and is aware of the tragedy that has struck the city. On Monday, a gunman allegedly attempted to enter the Pornhub headquarters in Côte-des-Neiges but was stopped by the police after a gunfight. A policeman and an innocent bystander were tragically killed, and the partner of the fallen cop was seriously injured before the SPVM finally managed to neutralize the shooter.
Needless to say, the city has been shocked and shaken by the tragedy. Within minutes of the shooting, graphic videos of the incident were making the rounds on social media, and it was everywhere on the news that evening. Clearly, the news even reached Europe, and the Habs player during his holiday.
On Tuesday, Caulfield shared the GoFundMe campaign set up to support the family of fallen policeman Mohamed Lamine Benredouane. Around the time he shared the campaign, a $5,000 anonymous contribution was made. There’s no proof that it came from the Canadiens’ top shooter, but it wouldn’t be surprising in the least. Even if it didn’t with the following he has, just sharing it must have made a difference. Soon after, Nick Suzuki followed suit and shared the campaign as well. At a time when so many American players are asking for trades out of Canada, Caufield once again showed his love for the city and its people.
If you have the means, consider joining the fundraising effort; if you don’t, just sharing the campaign link can go a long way towards helping the family of this courageous policeman who gave his life for the city and its people.
