Several Montreal Canadiens players are chasing personal milestones in 2024-25. Here's a look inside the numbers these skaters are chasing.

Several Montreal Canadiens players are chasing personal milestones in 2024-25. Here's a look inside the numbers these skaters are chasing.

    Canadiens Chasing Milestones in 2024-25

The Montreal Canadiens are listed as the second youngest team in the NHL ahead of the 2024-25 season. According to Elite Prospects, the team's average age is 25.54, meaning nobody is close to 500 goals or 1,000 points.

Although no one is on the verge of a significant NHL milestone, that doesn't mean there aren't a handful of skaters looking to achieve personal ones.

Today, we will examine a few Canadiens players who are about to reach important personal milestones. These moments will add some excitement to the long grind of the hockey season.

    Brendan Gallagher

As the longest-tenured player in the Montreal lineup, Brendan Gallagher needs only 24 points to reach 450 in his career, moving him up into the top-30 all-time in team history. Even though he's averaged 35 points a year, it's been four seasons since he hit that mark, meaning he's a long shot to catch Aurel Joliat (463 points) for 27th on the list.

    Nick Suzuki

Since his debut in 2019-20, Nick Suzuki's yearly totals continue to climb, topping out at 77 points last year with a career-high 36 goals. He needs only 14 points to reach 300, while another 22 assists will net him 200 for his young career. It will be challenging, but every goal he scores in 2024-25 gets him closer to 150 since he currently sits at 108.

    Cole Caufield

Last month, Cole Caufield switched his number from 22 to 13, so here's hoping the new digits bring him as much success as his previous ones. He's tallied at least 20 goals in three of his four seasons and is now 19 away from 100. Meanwhile, he's 32 helpers away from 100 and 51 points from 200. After 65 points last year, he's almost a lock to hit all three targets in 2024-25.

    Juraj Slafkovsky

Juraj Slafkovsky, the former first-overall pick from 2022, is about to begin his third NHL season. After a 20-goal, 50-point campaign as a sophomore, he's now just 26 lamplighters away from 50 and 40 points shy of 100. Moreover, he dressed in all 82 games in 2022-23, meaning if he stays healthy, he'll reach 200 by the end of the campaign, needing 79 to reach the milestone.

    Patrik Laine

Newly acquired winger Patrik Laine is just 20 games away from reaching his 500th and needs only 12 points to tally his 400th point in the league. At 204 goals, he won't reach 250 without a monster campaign, but he should easily reach 200 assists, needing only 16 helpers.

    David Savard

Veteran defender David Savard must dress in five games to reach 800, while 23 points will net him 250 for his career. If he gets 26 assists, he'll reach 200, but since coming to Montreal, his average is just 16 a year, meaning that milestone is something for the 2025-26 season, in Montreal or elsewhere.

    Joel Armia

As the third oldest player in the Montreal lineup, Joel Armia is on pace to reach 100 goals (92), 100 assists (86), and 200 points (178). His most productive seasons may be in the past, but he proved last year that he can still accumulate points with 17 goals and 25 points.

    Josh Anderson

If Josh Anderson can capture lightning in a bottle (again), he's got the skills to score his 150th goal (131), 100th assist (92), and 250th point (223). However, if his productions dips like it did in 2023-24, he's a long shot to reach any of those milestones.

    Mike Matheson

Last year, Mike Matheson had the best season of his career, scoring 11 goals and 62 points. Even if he manages to get half of those totals, he'll reach milestones of 75 goals and 250 points. But, if there's one area of his game he can clean up, it's his minus-24 rating, which tied him for the worst on the team.

    Sam Montembeault

The undisputed starter for the Canadiens has a chance to move his name up the team's all-time goalie rankings. At 119 games played, he's only 42 away from climbing to 15th place (161). With 18 wins, he'll overtake 20th (58) on the victories list, while 21 losses would make a tie for the 10th most (73).
