The weather was scorching in and around Montreal today, but that didn’t stop the Make Your Move hockey event from taking place in Boisbriand. All weekend long, participants of every age are taking part in a shootout competition at the Centre d’excellence sports Rousseau.
But on Saturday evening, the amateurs made way for some professional players, well, one professional player and some interesting prospects. It was easy to tell that even though two players from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada were taking part in the showdown, the crowd was there for one man: Montreal Canadiens’ rookie Ivan Demidov.

On top of Demidov, the fans were able to enjoy the moves put on by Justin Carbonneau (the St. Louis’ Blues first-round pick 19th overall), Bill Zonnon (the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first-round pick 22nd overall at the 2025 draft), Swaggy P and Coach Chippy (social media sensations who have impressive shootout tricks) amongst others.
While Demidov is a great hockey player, he doesn’t have quite the same trick-shot skills as the social media sensations, but when he wanted to score, he cut out the nonsense and did it, even if it wasn’t as spectacular as some of the other tricks that were being pulled.
In net, NCAA goaltender Eve Gascon performed very well and even made a couple of nice saves on the Canadiens’ superstar in the making, just like Lucas Beckman (Ottawa Senators’ fourth-round pick at the latest draft, 97th overall).
In the end, Zonnon and Carbonneau made the final, and it was the former who won the contest with a wicked backhand shot. While Demidov didn’t come out on top, seeing their two local stars make the final sat just right with the local fans.
Looking at Demidov skate tonight, he had plenty of fun and didn’t mind spending his Saturday night in the QMJHL arena, pleasing the fans. In just over three months, he’ll be doing it again on a much bigger stage, and I bet Habs fans can’t wait.
