The Montreal Canadiens are struggling this season and to say goaltending has been an issue would be an understatement, but there is hope on the horizon.

The Montreal Canadiens are currently dead last in the NHL not only in the standings, but also in some important statistical categories, including goals-against average. Martin St-Louis' men are giving up an average of 4.07 goals per game.

The panel discusses the possibility of Patrik Laine making Finland's lineup for the 4 Nations Face-Off

The Canadiens are the only team in the league that allows over four goals a game on average. The Colorado Avalanche are in second place with a 3.93 and the Pittsburgh Penguins are third at 3.69.

While Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau are struggling mightily, prospect Jacob Fowler is having a fantastic start to his sophomore year in the NCAA with Boston College. The 69th overall pick at the 2023 draft has player eight games so far this season and has won seven of them, posting three shutouts in the process. His goals-against average stands at 1.26 and his save percentage is at .950.

It's worth mentioning that he also signed three shutouts in his rookie season, but he did it in 39 games. It would be surprising if he was able to keep such stellar stats all season, but still, he finished last season with a 2.14 GAA and a .926 SP, which is fantastic as well, on top of making the national final

The Canadiens will have to ride out the current struggles of its goaltenders, but the future does look bright in net. Not only is Fowler turning out to be a stud in the NCAA but Jakub Dobes also had good numbers before falling to injury at the end of October with a 2.42 GAA and a .908 SP.
