Only three members of the Montreal Canadiens organization are participating in the 2025 World Championship: Mike Matheson with Canada, Vinzenz Rohrer with Austria, and Emil Heineman with Sweden.

On Saturday, Heineman and Sweden were taking on France, which had already been eliminated, and the young forward scored an impressive goal. The Tre Kronor has plenty of offensive weapons, with the likes of Filip Forsberg, Mika Zibanejad, Mikael Backlund, and Elias Lindholm, to name a few. The Canadiens’ left winger has had a quiet tournament so far, but against the French, he scored a goal that showcases just how dangerous he can be.

Coming down the side with speed, Heineman sold the pass perfectly with his eyes looking across the ice as if he was going to feed his teammate. Still, he unleashed a perfect snipe without warning, beating goaltender Antoine Keller, whose water bottle took some damage on the play.

Before being injured when he was hit by a car in Utah, Heineman was quietly having a good season with the Canadiens; he had scored his 10 goals before the incident. While he was unable to score in the remainder of the regular season, it wasn’t for lack of trying. He was unlucky, hitting the post several times, but he never stopped working tirelessly.

He scored the Canadiens’ last goal of the year when the team fell 4-1 to the Washington Capitals on April 30, and needless to say, he’ll be expected to have even more of an impact next season. This opportunity to play with the very best players of his country will be a formative experience for the youngster who’s representing his nation at the senior level for the first time.

He participated in the World Junior Championship in 2021, scoring a single goal in five games as Sweden lost to Finland in the quarterfinals. The Swedes are currently first in Group A with 18 points, but second-place Canada has 15 points and a game in hand.
