While Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes and Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton were working hard at the draft with the scouting staff, the Habs’ players were off celebrating a joyous occasion in Scotland.

It turns out there was a particular reason why Captain Nick Suzuki and his fiancée, Caitlin Fitzgerald, were taking in the sights last week in England: they joined several other Canadiens players and former players for Joel Edmundson’s wedding.

The veteran defenseman spent three seasons in Montreal, and although injuries limited his playing time, he still made his mark in the locker room, playing DJ, and remained friends with some of the players after being traded to the Washington Capitals. Now a member of the Los Angeles Kings, he did manage to play 73 games this past season.

Aside from Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Christian Dvorak, Josh Anderson, and former blueliner Chris Wideman were all present, according to pictures published by Fitzgerald and Anderson’s wife, Paola’s, Instagram account. With a wedding set in Scotland, it was hardly surprising to see some photos with the groom sporting a kilt.

Last Summer, Edmundson and his fiancée attended Jake and Emily Evans’ wedding in Ireland with several Canadiens’ players, and it’s obvious to see how much of a good team spirit there is in the Habs’ room. When Noah Dobson spoke about the reasons that made him want to sign long-term with Montreal, he mentioned that they seemed like a good group of guys who enjoyed being with each other.

As trivial as it may seem, pictures of events like these making the rounds on social media go a long way toward showing other players across the league how tight the group is and how they want to spend time together, not only during the season, but also on their holidays.

Expect to see some more pictures in early July when Suzuki and Fitzgerald are set to tie the knot in Montreal.
