The Montreal Canadiens are known for possessing one of the strongest prospect pools in the NHL. They have plenty of exciting youngsters in their system who have the potential to emerge as important players for them later down the road.
One Canadiens prospect who is certainly worth keeping an eye on is forward Aatos Koivu. The 2024 third-round pick has shown promise early on in his development, and there is reason to believe that he could blossom into a solid NHL player later down the road because of it.
During this past season with TPS of the Finnish Liiga, Koivu recorded one goal, seven assists, and eight points in 31 games. While his offensive numbers were not the highest in 2024-25, he handled himself well playing against professionals as a teenager. Due to this, it would not be surprising if we see his numbers improve next season with the Finnish club now that he has gained more experience.
Koivu's strong play at the World Junior Summer Showcase with Team Finland should only create more excitement about the Canadiens prospect's future. During a recent matchup against Team USA in the tournament, Koivu showed off his offensive potential in a big way, as he scored two goals in the matchup for Team Finland.
Koivu having an impressive game like this is certainly encouraging to see. The young forward clearly has some offensive upside, and it will be fascinating to see if he can stay hot for Team Finland during the tournament from here.
