The Canadiens added young blueliner Gustav Lindstrom and received a 2025 draft pick from the Red Wings in exchange for Jeff Petry.
Just nine days after the Canadiens took part in a three-team trade, which brought former Habs defenseman Jeff Petry back to Montreal, the blueliner found himself on the move again after Kent Hughes completed a deal to send Petry to Detroit. In return, the Red Wings offered up 24-year-old defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft.
Drafted 38th overall in 2017 by Detroit, Lindstrom has suited up for 128 NHL games over four seasons, scoring two goals and adding 23 assists. The 6-foot-2, 183-pound right-hand shot is a native of Ostervala, Sweden and was part of the Swedish national team who captured silver at the 2018 World Junior Championship.
Per the graphic from PuckPedia above, the Canadiens will retain 50 per cent of Petry's salary, or $2.34 million. The conditional fourth-rounder in 2025 will either be Detroit's pick or Boston's pick, whichever one is the later pick of the two.
