The forward was recently honored by the American Hockey League for his performance through seven games played in October.

Excerpt from 'Habs Hockey Report' of host Amy Johnson commenting on the highs and lows of the first month of the Montreal Canadiens' season.

Everybody likes good news, right? What's not to like about good news? Habs fans probably wouldn't mind a bit of good news in the early parts of this season.

I mean, sure, the Montreal Canadiens actually have more points to start the season than most people would have projected, but that's in spite of the fact that there have also been some glaring disappointments right off the bat. Injuries have already taken their toll on this team, some of which have come to young players who are counting on this year for development and progression.

So what about that good news? Well, one of the Canadiens' bright young prospects just got a big stick tap from the AHL. This week, 20-year-old forward Joshua Roy was named as the American Hockey League's Rookie of the Month for October.

Through eight games played, Roy has tallied five goals and seven assists, and leads all rookies in the league's points race. At one point last week, he was also the overall AHL points leader.

While his scoring has cooled off a bit in the last two games played, there's plenty of upside there in Roy's game, and this year in Laval could prove to be very valuable to his development. His five-point game against Rochester a couple of weeks ago unsurprisingly caused many fans to voice their desire for him to be recalled to Montreal sooner rather than later. My advice, however, would be to practice patience, not rush him into the big-pressure environment of the Bell Centre, and let him spend some time getting consistently good in the AHL.
