The Montreal Canadiens' general manager had another relatively quiet trade deadline this year. Is he taking the right steps to set the franchise up for success?
Now that the dust has settled on last week's NHL Trade Deadline, it's a good time to sit back and examine just exactly what moves the Montreal Canadiens did, or didn't, make this year.

The fact that Kent Hughes remained pretty quiet and patient again this year is exactly what Sportsnet's Jason Bukala predicted when we spoke with him last week.
Trading Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils certainly helped solved the crowded nature of the Habs' crease for now, allowing Cayden Primeau to finally take his place as the backup goaltender for the Canadiens. Hughes indicated at his post-deadline press conference that he and the organization felt that the goaltending prospect had shown this season he was ready to take that next step, which aided in the decision to trade the veteran Allen.
Sean Monahan's trade to Winnipeg early in the calendar year certainly grabbed attention, with Hughes acquiring yet another first-round draft pick for the forward. Add a couple of AHL-level trades to the mix, and you've got the sum total of the Habs' moves this year.
In this week's episode of Habs Hockey Report I review all of the trades Hughes has made so far in 2024, explain the GM's newest deal that went down this week, and hand out my overall grade for this year's Montreal Canadiens trade deadline!
