The Hughes family will become the ninth family with three (or more) brothers appearing in the same NHL game on Tuesday night when the Vancouver Canucks host the New Jersey Devils.
On one side of the ice, for the Devils, will be first-overall pick Jack Hughes and fourth-overall selection Luke Hughes. At the other end, with the "C" stitched on his Canucks' sweater, will be seventh-overall pick Quinn Hughes.
Jack and Quinn have played each other six times in their career, with the Devils earning a 5-1-0 record in those games.
The "Hughes Bowl" is the biggest storyline of the night, and below are some of the best quotes ahead of tonight's game.
"(The) game is a very important game for both teams in the standings. It is just another hockey game for them. It might feel a little different for Ellen and me, but for the three of them, they are trying to play to the best of their abilities and see if they can get their teams some points."
"It's exciting, of course, playing Luke in the NHL. I only play them two times a year, so it's exciting. ...I'm sure at some point on the ice, maybe during warmups or during the game, or sometime after (it will soak in that we are part of NHL history)."
"It's a lot of hard work, definitely a little bit of luck along the way. You know, three kids, if one kid gets to the NHL, it's really hard. For three in one family to all be playing one game tonight is really special and really exciting. I think we should have a lot of fun. This is the first of many, but it is a really special night."
"I mean (our parents) pushed us into the sport. We wouldn't be here without them, and they are going to enjoy tonight more than anybody. It is great for them. It is great for our family."
"To be able to see all three kids in one game is a great opportunity for the family and something they've got to all be proud of. I played with three of the Sutters and played against a lot of them. To have three kids that are incredibly gifted offensively, skating-wise. You've got to be a skater first in this league. They're all incredible skaters. To have the puck skills that they do, it tells you a lot about the talent that's coming into the League."
"They've put their name on notice throughout the League. The three of them are all extremely good players. With Quinn and Jack being completely established and superstars already and Luke not far behind them. Let's hope our Hughes' do better than theirs."
"I think it's great for hockey. Look at the talent of those three guys. It is incredible. They are competitive brothers. I mean, yeah, they are brothers, but they want to showcase their talents tonight. ...For me, how close they are as brothers, how much they love each other, and how much they want each other to do so well is really the story for me. It is a very close-knit family."
