With John Marino out of tonight's game, the New Jersey Devils have recalled Tyler Wotherspoon from the Utica Comets.
Wotherspoon was recalled by the Devils on Mar. 13 when Marino was first injured. He was sent down to the Comets yesterday with goaltender Nico Daws but has been recalled today as an extra defenseman.
The 31-year-old hasn't played an NHL game since the 2016-17 season where he suited up in four games for the Calgary Flames. His 30 total NHL games have all been played with the Flames, spanning over four seasons.
Wotherspoon has registered four assists in his 30 career games. This season with the Comets he's scored four goals and 21 points in the 54 games he's played in. The 6'2 defenseman was a second-round pick in the 2011 NHL draft.
He'll be the extra defenseman tonight just in case of any last-minute injuries or scratches before puck drop. The Devils are currently playing two defensemen who they recently recalled in Nick DeSimone and Santeri Hatakka.
The Devils are hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at the Prudential Center. Puck drop is at 7:00 P.M. EST.
