The former Devils forward receives a call-up ahead of the Bruins-Devils game on Wednesday.

On Tuesday morning, Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced that former New Jersey Devils forward Jesper Boqvist was recalled from the Providence Bruins. The Bruins will face the Devils on Wednesday night at Prudential Center.

It appears he could be replacing another familiar face in Boston's lineup, Pavel Zacha.

According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, Zacha was absent from the Bruins' Tuesday afternoon practice. The 26-year-old sustained an upper-body injury in his team's 5-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

On Monday, Boston head coach Jim Montgomery said Zacha is considered day-to-day.

Boqvist made his Bruins debut on Oct. 26 versus the Anaheim Ducks. After making one appearance, he was sent back down to Providence. In the American Hockey League (AHL), the Swede has amassed 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 24 games, fifth-most on the team.

As a free agent, Boqvist signed a one-year, one-way $775,000 contract with the Bruins on July 12, 2023. He appeared in 189 games for New Jersey, collecting 55 points.

If Boqvist draws into Boston's lineup Wednesday night, it will be the first time he will face his former team.
