The defenseman is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

It is official. The New Jersey Devils will be without one of their veteran defensemen on Thursday night against the Dallas Stars.

Interim head coach Travis Green confirmed John Marino remains out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Marino has appeared in 64 games this season. He has amassed 23 points (four goals, 19 assists), three points shy of matching his career-high 26 points achieved in the 2019-20 campaign.

The Devils are also without veteran defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler, who suffered a concussion from an illegal hit by New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe.

Green told the attending media he would dress seven defensemen for warmups and decide afterward who would draw into the lineup.

During Wednesday's practice, the team's defensive pairs looked like this:

    Luke Hughes - Simon Nemec

    Kevin Bahl - Nick DeSimone

    Santeri Hatakka - Brendan Smith

DeSimone was claimed off waivers from the Calgary Flames on Jan. 25, 2024. His last NHL game was on Jan. 18, 2024. Hatakka's previous game with New Jersey was on Feb. 12, 2024, a little over a month ago. He played seven games with New Jersey this season, tallying two assists and a +7 rating.

On Wednesday evening, the Devils also recalled 31-year-old defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon from their American Hockey League affiliate.
