The New Jersey Devils will host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night at Prudential Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. The team held a 10:30 A.M. morning skate. It will be Travis Green's first game as interim head coach after the Devils fired Lindy Ruff on Monday evening.
"This is not the way I envisioned being a head coach again in the NHL," Green said. "Moving forward, it is my job now to help this team move forward, help them progress, and that started this morning."
Ondrej Palat was missing from the team's morning skate. The veteran forward is dealing with a lower-body injury.
Devils vs. Panthers - Prudential Center
The Devils have a 1-1-0 record against the Panthers this season. In their previous meeting, the Devils earned a 4-1 victory, getting goals from Alexander Holtz, Jesper Bratt, Erik Haula, and John Marino. Nico Daws was in the net and made 35 saves on 36 shots.
The Panthers are first in the Atlantic Division (42-16-4). They are coming off a 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday night. Sam Reinhart scored two goals, and Aleksander Barkov collected two assists. It was the club's fifth straight victory.
- New Jersey's injury list includes Dougie Hamilton (out indefinitely), Nathan Bastian (lower body), and Vitek Vanecek (lower body).
- Florida's injury list includes Jonah Gadjovich (undisclosed).
- Brandon Montour was Named the NHL's Second Star of the Week on Monday. Since Feb. 24, the defenseman has tallied eight points.
- Florida has not allowed more than two goals in a road game since Jan. 6.
- Bratt enters tonight's game on a two-game point streak against Florida (two goals, one assist).
- Per the media notes, Luke Hughes' 16 power-play points (four goals, 12 assists) rank first for all NHL rookie skaters this season.
