Devils goaltender Jake Allen made 36 saves on 38 shots in his team's 5-2 victory over the Penguins.
Goaltender Jake Allen has started three games for the New Jersey Devils since he was acquired at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. It is safe to say he has surpassed expectations and has, so far, been the savior fans have been looking for.
In the final minute of the first period, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby found the puck on his stick and enough of an open net to guarantee his 34th goal of the season.
The veteran netminder had other plans and lunged back from the top of the blue paint to make a remarkable stick save.
"I saw him ... he walked out in front of the net and was patient, waiting me out," Allen said of his save. "It's desperation, but at the same time, there's a lot of luck involved there, and sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. It was an important first game of this three-game homestand."
The Devils eventually won the game 5-2, with Allen making 36 saves. As MSGN play-by-play announcer Bill Spaulding reported, the veteran goaltender has made 105 saves on 111 shots as a Devil.
