In front of 70,328 fans at MetLife Stadium, the New Jersey Devils earned a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers as part of the 2024 NHL Stadium Series. Nico Hischier and Nathan Bastian each scored twice while Nico Daws made 45 saves.
Hischier scored his 17th of the season on a breakaway 32 seconds into the game. Ondrej Palat earned the lone assist. It was the fastest goal scored in a game this season by New Jersey.
Tyler Toffoli extended his team's lead to 2-0 with his 24th of the season. Defenseman Brendan Smith and forward Jack Hughes earned the assists. It was Hughes' 50th point of the 2023-24 season.
The Devils skated into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead and a 13-9 shot advantage.
A little over seven minutes into the second period, Flyers forward Owen Tippett scored his 20th of the season. Travis Konecny and Egor Zamula collected the helpers. The 25-year-old has goals in back-to-back games against New Jersey.
The momentum swung in Philadelphia's favor as the period continued, but New Jersey survived the surge.
Smith scored his second goal of the season a little over 16 minutes into the game. Ondrej Palat and Nico Hischier tallied the assists and their second point of the night.
A minute later, Bastian scored his fourth goal of the season to extend the Devils lead to 4-1. Timo Meier and Curtis Lazar earned the helpers.
Tippett scored his second of the game on the power play with less than two minutes remaining in the period. Konecny earned his second assist of the night, while Morgan Frost earned his first.
New Jersey held a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of action.
Less than three minutes into the third period, Hischier scored his second of the game off a feed from Bratt. It was the captain's third point of the night.
Defenseman John Marino was credited with the secondary assist on Hischier's goal. It was his 100th career NHL point.
Nick Seeler's first goal of the season made the score 5-3 at the halfway point of the period.
Bastian shot the puck into the empty net for his second goal of the night with 1:45 remaining. It was his first multi-goal game of the season.
Daws faced a career-high 48 shots. It was the most saves in an outdoor game in NHL history. Per NHL PR, he joined Matt Murray (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Mike Condon (Montreal Canadiens) as the third rookie goaltender to earn an NHL outdoor game win.
