NEWARK, N.J. -- Ahead of the official start of New Jersey Devils Rookie Camp at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House, the team announced their first injury of the season.
Forward Josh Filmon is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury and will not participate in the 2024 Prospects Challenge at LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo, New York.
After the rookies who will be in the tournament completed their on-ice session on Thursday, Utica Comets head coach Kevin Dineen provided reporters with a further update on 20-year-old Filmon.
"There is good news on that front that it is not going to be anything long-term," Dineen said. "Obviously, he won't be in Buffalo with us. He won't be here for the first couple of weeks of training camp, but we don't foresee it being a long-term injury."
The Devils selected Filmon 166th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. On Mar. 31, 2023, he signed his three-year, entry-level contract.
Fans got a glimpse of Filmon last year at the 2023 Prospects Challenge. The 20-year-old additionally played a preseason game for the Devils last season.
He made his American Hockey League (AHL) debut on Apr. 4, 2023, and scored his first AHL goal a few nights later on Apr. 8. against the Rochester Americans.
