The New Jersey Devils invite former Anaheim Ducks Defenceman Andy Welinski to training camp on a PTO.
The New Jersey Devils announced that they invited Andy Welinski to training camp on a PTO.
He joins goaltender Michael Hutchinson and defensemen Jakub Zboril and forward Kevin Labanc, who have also joined the Devils on a PTO invite.
Welinski, 31, has only appeared in 46 NHL games and has one goal and five assists, all with the Ducks.
He has spent most of his pro-hockey career in the AHL with numerous AHL teams. His best season, came in 2017-18, when he had 10 goals and 24 assists for 34 points in 51 games.
Welinski will likely be an insurance policy for the Devils' blue line if there are injuries. It wouldn't be surprising if he signs a two-way contract and be the first call-up option when the team has injuries on the back end.
