Smith's hearing is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1.

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. -- New Jersey Devils defenseman Brendan Smith will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety today for slashing against Travis Konecny of the Philadelphia Flyers.

The slash occurred near the Devils bench late in the final frame in New Jersey's 4-3 overtime win on Thursday. Smith was handed a minor penalty for slashing, which led to the Flyers tying the game with under a minute left to play.

After the game, Devils head coach Lindy Ruff said, "I saw a lot of good stuff from (Smith). His (penalty) killing and physicality were good. I'm going to mention one negative: We can't take the penalty at the end of the game."

Per NHL.com, the following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: slashing. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
